Redesigned Grab Superapp to make it easier for drivers to pick up passengers

Grab Current Flow

Project Summary

Introduction

Grab (previously known as GrabTaxi) is an on-demand service platform headquartered in Singapore. Starting from transportation services, the company now has other services such as food delivery and payments that can be accessed via mobile applications.

Initially, Grab was founded in Malaysia, before moving their head office to Singapore. Currently, Grab has operations in Southeast Asia (except Laos and Brunei). Grab is the first “decacorn” startup in Southeast Asia.

In Indonesia, Grab serves vehicle orders such as motorcycle taxis (GrabBike), cars (GrabCar), taxis (GrabTaksi), couriers (GrabExpress), food delivery (GrabFood), and carpooling (GrabHitch Car). Currently Grab is available in 125 cities across Indonesia, from Banda Aceh — Aceh to Jayapura — Papua.

Problem analysis

It often happens in the field when a driver has difficulty and spends a lot of time and even gets lost to find the user’s pick-up location, because the user’s pick-up location is too difficult to reach (usually in housing areas that have winding roads).

Objective

Making suggestions for pick-up places so that users can choose places that are easily accessible by drivers (especially if in residential areas), and so that drivers don’t spend too long looking for user pick-up places and avoid the possibility of drivers getting lost.

Solutions

After seeing this, I thought to come up with a feature idea where we have to find users and tell them strategic locations that are easily accessible to drivers so that drivers don’t get confused about finding the user’s location in certain places.

Making Ideas in a sketch

After finding some shortcomings and user needs, I immediately tried to implement my design in paper form.

I’m thinking of providing the bullet points and recommended locations with labels, users can also add the suggested locations in their saved location list.

High-Fidelity Stage

After I sketched it, I immediately implemented it into high-fidelity (not yet made low-fidelity because it still lacks assets).

Conclusion Changes in Design

1. Pickup Suggestion (Not clicked yet)

In this design the user will be notified via text if the user can choose a pick-up point that is easier to reach and to change the location to a recommended location, the user only needs to press the location with the “recommended” label then the location will automatically change.

Important elements added to this page are:

1. Pick-up point suggestion

2. Title & subtitle and “change” button to change the pick up location via the map.

3. Recommended location with the label “recommended” along with the user’s current location.

2. Pickup Suggestion Used (Clicked)

Meanwhile when the user clicks on the suggested location, the pickup points will change to the suggested location.

Then a “pickup suggestion” title will appear indicating that it is a recommended pick-up point, and users can also add that location to their saved location list.
